Massachusetts is a gatekeeper state when it comes to student debt cancellation, home to key congressmembers (Warren, Markey, Pressley) on the student debt issue. Pushing leaders here can influence the entire terms of the debate. Additionally, Massachusetts has some of the strongest free college legislation nationally, progressive infrastructure, leadership in hubs like Boston, and powerful teacher’s unions.

However, none of that helps the thousands of borrowers stuck in the broken system.  We are building a coalition to change that.

After pushing out surveys in Summer 2026, growing a list of MA student debtors, and on the ground outreach through a coffee hour and relationship building by Ashley, the Sept 17th virtual call is a “kickoff” for the MA campaign – to start building collective debtor consciousness in MA, bring on new members, and plant the seeds for collective action.
