Housing Debt

As of fall 2021, an estimated 15 million US households are behind on rent payments, owing tens of billions of dollars collectively. Those behind on rent debt are overwhelmingly low income and people of color.

All while housing is corporatized. Since the Great Recession of 2009, housing is increasingly concentrated in the hands of big companies — from private equity landlords to landlords who pretend they are “mom and pop” but hide massive holdings behind LLCs.

That’s why we are organizing to end housing and land speculation and ensure housing for people, not for profit..

This work is a collaboration with housing justice organizers, tenants unions, and activists, including the LA Tenants Union, the Autonomous Tenants Union Network, and others.
