Everyone can see the signs of a housing crisis in America – and it’s only getting worse. Homelessness has exploded across our cities, house prices are historically unaffordable, rents keep climbing, and one in 8 renters carry rent debt – an existing problem uniquely exacerbated by the Pandemic.
Housing is increasingly concentrated in the hands of big companies — from private equity landlords to landlords who pretend they are “mom and pop” but hide massive holdings behind LLCs. The increased corporatization, concentration, and financialization of housing is making it more expensive, our lives more precarious.
That’s why we are organizing to end speculation and ensure housing is for people, not for profit.
Tenant Power Toolkit
The Tenant Power Toolkit is a series of legal mutual aid tools that helps California tenants fight their eviction and connect to resources on the ground.
This work is a collaboration with housing justice organizers, tenants unions, and activists, including the LA Tenants Union, the UCLA Luskin Institute on Inequality and Democracy, and others.
