National Call for Medical Debt Abolition
Medical debt is in the news. From the issue getting lip service at the DNC to a new wave of state medical debt cancellation initiatives, there seems to be renewed attention to the fact we’re getting screwed by healthcare costs.
But medical debt doesn’t exist in a vacuum. It’s a symptom of a healthcare system that incentivizes the pursuit of profit at the expense of everyone and everything else.
The commodification of our health – together with the constant unspoken threat of financial devastation in the event of a medical emergency – puts all of us in an antagonistic relationship with the U.S. healthcare system, whether or not we’re actively struggling with medical bills.
Join the Debt Collective for a National Call for Medical Debt Abolition on Wednesday, September 18 to talk strategy and plans for tackling the profit-driven healthcare system, laying out our collective demands of public offices and officials, and building a future in which healthcare is a public good.
The medical industrial complex is hostile and dysfunctional, and the corporate interests invested in keeping in that way have a lot of money to throw around. But we have people, we have our anger, and we know how to organize. Together, we can fight for the health care system we deserve.
