College Affordability and Black Student Debt

On average, Black students graduate with $7,400 more student debt than white students and this divide only widens as interest accrues over time. The racial wealth gap and pay inequities exacerbate these issues, with Black borrowers still owing 95 percent of their debt after 20 years, while the typical white borrower owes 6 percent. Overall, Black borrowers pay significantly more for the same degrees than white borrowers do. Join us as Dr Jalil Bishop highlights the life experiences of black borrowers and why student debt is a racial justice issue.
