Autoreduction: Rejecting Medical Debt Collectively
Part 1: Autonomia
41% of Americans have medical debt. In a system that commodifies healthcare along with every other aspect of our survival, this crisis is not just lingering — it’s worsening. In the richest country in the history of the world, no one should be in debt for trying to access basic needs.
What are we supposed to do when we can’t pay besides not pay? When our institutions are failing us, what can we accomplish through collective agency and collective enforcement?
On October 30 at 8pm ET/5pm PT for the first of three sessions on autoreduction or the tactic of collectively setting prices as a means of fighting back against a hostile capitalist system. Join us and Stephen Piccarella to learn about autoreduction, the autonomia movement of 1970s Italy, and how we might apply this tactic with medical debt in 2025.
