SUMMARY:National Call for Medical Debt Abolition
DESCRIPTION:\nMedical debt is in the news. From the issue getting lip servi
ce at the DNC to a new wave of state medical debt cancellation initiatives
\, there seems to be renewed attention to the fact we're getting screwed b
y healthcare costs. \n\n\n\nBut medical debt doesn't exist in a vacuum. It
's a symptom of a healthcare system that incentivizes the pursuit of profi
t at the expense of everyone and everything else. \n\n\n\nThe commodificat
ion of our health –&nbsp\;together with the constant unspoken threat of
financial devastation in the event of a medical emergency –&nbsp\;puts a
ll of us in an antagonistic relationship with the U.S. healthcare system\,
whether or not we're actively struggling with medical bills.\n\n\n\nJoin
the Debt Collective for a National Call for Medical Debt Abolition on Wedn
esday\, September 18 to talk strategy and plans for tackling the profit-dr
iven healthcare system\, laying out our collective demands of public offic
es and officials\, and building a future in which healthcare is a public g
ood.\n\n\n\nThe medical industrial complex is hostile and dysfunctional\,
and the corporate interests invested in keeping in that way have a lot of
money to throw around. But we have people\, we have our anger\, and we kno
w how to organize. Together\, we can fight for the health care system we d
 eserve.\n
